Our Youth Ministry
We welcome youth seventh grade through college-age to participate in our youth ministry at JFBC. Sunday activities include attending Sunday school, morning worship, youth choir practice--which is followed by a snack--and leading the music during evening worship. On Wednesday nights we meet for 24/7 Ministries: a mixture of Bible study, fellowship, and games. Details about these and other ministry activities follow below.
Sunday School and Discipleship Training
Sunday School and Discipleship Training provide opportunities for Christian fellowship in small age-graded groups. Well trained teachers guide class members in Bible study and lead in discussions of topics related to Christian living. Join us at 9:45 a.m. on Sunday mornings for Sunday School and at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday evenings for Discipleship Training.
Discipleship Now Weekend
D-Now, occurring the last weekend in January, consists of concentrated Bible study, an overnight lock-in, a county-wide youth rally, and a recreation day.
Valentine Banquet
On or near Valentine Day, youth help sponsor a dinner. This is one of our fund-raisers for summer camp. Youth sell tickets, decorate, and provide entertainment.
Concerts
We usually attend three to four Christian concerts a year, including Winterjam in Mobile and GraceFest in Pensacola.
Summer Camp
For the past five years we have attended Centrifuge and Missionfuge camps at various college campuses. These week-long camps are packed with Bible study, worship, and lots of fun. You can check them out at www.fuge.com. To help students pay for camp, we hold fundraising events which may include church lunches, bake sales and cake auctions, car washes, and rummage sales. Youth may hire out to do odd jobs and yard work; one year we even did a dinner theater.
Summer Activities
Summer activities include tubing, canoeing, cookouts, water parks and amusement parks, bowling, shopping, and movies. At summer’s end, we hold a back-to-school bash.
School/Community Events
Near the beginning of each school year, our youth group participates in and/or hosts a campus prayer-walk and a multi-denominational See You At The Pole Rally. We also hold a fellowship (5th Quarter) after home football games and sponsor a meeting at the school on the National Day of Prayer. We are active in Relay for Life and attend youth rallies and other events at area churches.
Ministry Opportunities
Ministering to others is integral to our church mission and essential for Christian growth. Our youth minister to children by working in vacation Bible schools and helping during children’s church services. We have helped build a Habitat for Humanity house and do repairs on homes for senior adults. We visit homebound senior adults and deliver Thanksgiving and Christmas meals to some seniors and to needy families. We participated in our church’s recent Jay Walking event and will continue to assist in our church’s mission outreach.
